Jimmy Allison in an email to our recruiter, Norman Porterfield, let us know about the passing of Calvin. Calvin E. Smithson passed on December 15, 2007.

Kimberly Carter posted the following message in the DECK LOG of the USS William R Rush Association's web site:

"I was just checking out the different ships that my Father, Calvin Smithson, was on and I found this site. My Dad was on the William R. Rush from 1960-62. If any of you knew him, he passed away in December 2007 of mesothelioma. He was also on The USS Biddle, USS Harwood, USS Cabildo, and USS Holister. His time in the Navy meant the world to him. He died loving the Navy. If anyone knew him, please let me know. I would just like to know a little bit more about what it was like for him during his time on the ship. Thanks Hope all is well."
Webmasters Note: If anyone would like to contact Kimberly Carter, please refer to her DECK LOG entry. Or, you may contact me for her email address.
