I CAME ABOARD AS AN EM-2 IN 1972 WHILE THE SHIP WAS IN HONG KONG (I STILL REMEMBER FLYING HALFWAY AROUND THE WORLD TO FIND THE SHIP, TAKING THE LAUNCH OUT TO THE SHIP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, AND BEING TOLD TO DROP MY SEABAG ON THE QUARTER DECK AND GET BACK ON THE LAUNCH BECAUSE THE "SHIP'S PARTY" WAS IN FULL SWING IN TOWN!). I LEFT THE RUSH IN 1973 AS SHE WAS GOING THRU REFIT IN BOSTON FOR RESERVE DUTY. COMING FROM A BIRDFARM(USS WASP) TO A TINCAN WAS A BIG CHANGE FOR ME. I will be getting to San Diego on 17 August. On 19 August, I will then go on to Hawaii to return on board my son's ship, The USS John C. Stennis CVN-74. The ship leaves Hawaii on 19 August and pulls in to San Diego on 26 August. I will keep you all posted as to how I did on board one of "them new fangled" Air Craft Carriers. My son was afraid his "Old Man" might not survive the rigors of an at sea period on board a carrier. I guess he thinks it was easier on board a "Tin Can". Bugsy 1965-1967 Record 197
