Comments: I served as a midshipman on a 12 week summer cruise on the Rush in 1950. This was just as the Korean War started. It was complete confusion. We were convoying the USS Missouri but it went back to Norfolk to shed its wooden decks and get ready for Korea. I remember a very friendly and helpful crew and good officers. I also remember a lot of sea-sick middies in the North Atlantic storms. Is a color print of the Rush available for purchase? Jack Breen

Comments: The "Willy R", as some of us called her, was my first duty station. I reported on board May 1959 as a Seaman and advanced to the rate of QM3 prior to transferring in 1961. I was very proud to be a part of her crew because I had the opportunity to find out what the term "steaming grayhound" really meant. After a Med cruise and a trip to the North Atlantic, along with a few cruises to the Carribean for training exercises and a homeport change from Newport, RI to Mayport FL., I was beginning to wonder if I would ever see my home again. Thanks for the Web Page you have compiled. It is very informative and really brings back a lot of memories. Could you also please include my name on the list of crew members? Thanks again and I will put you on my list of Favorite Places.
