Hello, My dad Don Coelho served on the Rush somtime during 1951 to 1954 as a YN. He was living in Taunton Mass. at the time the Rush was homeported at Newport. This web site is one of the best I've seen! While serving on a LST during the early
seventies I caught a look at the Rush underway out in the atlantic. It was a thrill for me to be able to tell dad this. Now my son is out there on a destroyer cruising the same waters and hitting the same beaches both my dad and I did.
Dad's e-mail is dmleite@aol.com if any of his shipmates care to write him

Linked here from the Destroyer site. Of course the displayed
date of last update of this site is 7/14/99. That number repeats
itself several times a week in my life and has been ever since
leaving the "Silly Willy" in 1966. Even won some money for
my Aunt in NJ. She played the "numbers" in the Daily News.
Keep up the great work in promoting the Rush and keeping it
"alive". It was a part of every crewmembers life, never
to be erased

I have done several prior seaches for the Rush, and this is the first one I've found.

I was looking at some of the ships that I had served on and the Harwood was one, I was only on her for about 6 months, I had been transferred off of the William R. Rush, because of it being deployed, and I was starting Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
School at Norfolk, Va which, I had reenlisted for during the Cuban Blockade 1962. I served on the Harwood during 1963 for a short time. I have really enjoyed my visits to these sites, keep up the memories.

Served on board from 3/1/78 thru 7/1/78. Anyone remember colliding with the Kalamazoo? How bout XO Vroom crashing his moped in Bermuda? I xferred from the Rush to the Page (FFG5) in Norfolk. When I reported to Norfolk 2 weeks following decomissioning,
I saw the newly commissioned ROKS Kang-Won (DD 922) sitting in port broke down. Never heard what happened to her.
